The virtual RCN workshop was organized on December 4, 2020 with 71 global participants to offer visibility into programmes that are planning a response to the Programme Call of the Ocean Decade (https://www.oceandecade.org/events/134/United-Nations-Decade-of-Ocean-Science-for-Sustainable-Development-2021–2030–Call-for-Decade-Actions-No-012020) which was issued as part of the Ocean Decade Implementation Plan (https://www.oceandecade.org/news/72/Version-20-of-the-Ocean-Decade-Implementation-Plan-submitted-for-presentation-to-the-United-Nations-General-Assembly) . The meeting offered the opportunity for participants to discuss possible synergies and complementarity between their programs.
An overview of the workshop mission can be found in this powerpoint presentation.
Each two hour session of the workshop (agenda coming soon) started with an introduction to the UN Ocean Decade by Ariel Troisi, chair of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission, followed by Alison Clausen (IOC programme specialist) and Albert Fischer(IOC/Director of the GOOS Project Office), who offered insight into the Implementation Plan and the call for Programmes. Following the introductions, twenty-nine summaries of proposed programmes were presented by representatives at the workshop. The one slide summary presentations are listed below with links.
The workshop was sponsored by the Ocean Obs RCN under a grant from the US National Science Foundation.
